Homemade Anti-Aging Serum
January 24, 2022
Anti-aging serums can be expensive and contain harmful chemicals. Instead, try this homemade anti-aging serum recipe. It contains nutrients and antioxidants that will help the skin look vibrant and youthful while delivering vital nutrients and hydration.
Apply to the parts of the body that you feel needs the most anti-aging effects, which are usually the face, neck and perhaps upper chest — in other words, the parts of the body that are perhaps the most sun damaged.
Key Anti-Aging Ingredients
Jojoba oil: Perhaps the premiere carrier oil, jojoba oil is a great moisturizer for the skin. Meanwhile, it can remove sticky buildup or excess oil, too, keeping your oil levels balanced. That makes it a strong natural treatment for eczema as well as home remedy for acne, plus well suited for other dry-skin conditions.
Evening primrose oil: Evening primrose oil is a valuable treatment choice for people suffering from skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Studies published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science show that it can help with age-related structural and functional changes in skin tissues, such as redness, firmness, roughness and fatigue resistance.
Pomegranate oil: Pomegranate contains natural antimicrobials from vitamin C, and thus may be helpful fighting acne.
Vitamin E oil: This antioxidant-rich oil is rich and thick and loved by many for its ability to improve dry, flaky skin, along with help heal acne scars.
Lavender oil or frankincense oil: Using lavender oil topically can help improve a number of skin conditions, from canker sores to allergic reactions, acne and age spots. Frankincense oil benefits include the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone, elasticity, defense mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, and appearance as someone ages.
Carrot seed oil: A popular beauty product for moisturizing skin, carrot seed oil also works as an antifungal agent.
How to Make Anti-Aging Serum
It’s as simple as can be to make up this anti-aging serum. Mix all of the ingredients together into a dark glass bottle. Use a small funnel if need so you don’t spill any of these ingredients.
Use every morning and night on face, neck and chest, or anywhere where you want to deal with aging skin. You can put sunscreen over this mixture if you’re going out in the sun during high UV times of the year.

I made a 30ml batch of Lavender and of Frankincense. I plan on using the lavender in the morning and frankincense at night. Would you recommend this, stick to one or reverse the choice for morning/night?
I make and use this regularly and am complimented on how young my skin looks, particularly my neck.
Yes but I don’t have any idea where to get these products, other than Walmart, Help!
You can order from a company called Mountain Rose there products are outstanding quality and they are a very trustworthy company.
Can I replace carrot seed oil with a few drops of carrot seed essential oil
It is the same😅
What if I gave all but evening primerose oil? Which oil can replace it?
I have a silly question, the %of EO is not to high for skin face? Im a newbie in the formulation world 😉 but this is something very confusing to me. I have been reading and in all books said something different, only use EO skin face at 1-2% or you can go up to 5% but not for daily use. Which one would be perfect % then?
Thanks in advance
I think serums are different. They are usually at a higher concentration than face creams or other face skin car products. But they way that you use them are different. You use a much smaller amount. They are applied (well the way I was taught anyway) by spreading across the palms then pressing gently on to the skin. There may be several steps t the skincare routine that incorporates a serum. You may be right though… facials are something I would probably have once a week max. Daily may be too often.
I would love to make this serum. Where can I buy these oils to make sure I’m getting best quality oils? Please share links if possible.
Hi Soni … you may want to check Ancient Nutrition online. Otherwise, simply make sure it’s USDA Certified Organic.
I use youngliving snd bought some carrier oils ftom iherbs. I can vouch they are good and have seen result.
Love this serum! Been using it for years. Still getting older but it really does help me age slower than my sister 😉
Dr.Axe always has great and safe recipes. Thanks Doc
Interesting recipe. I was wondering if it would work if the volume for lavender/frankincense could be evenly split between the two. I like the benefits of each and find it hard to pick just one.
Thank you.
I am wanting to try this anti-aging serum AS WELL as your recipe for a homemade face wash (baking soda, lavender, frankincense, lemon, coconut oil). Would it be too much to first wash my face with that face wash and then follow it with this serum?
On the contrary! That’s a perfect way to go.
Can coconut oil be used in place of the Jojoba oil, or is the Jojoba oil better?
Yes, these are both excellent carrier oils for the face.
Just made a double batch of this and excited to try it out! For the primrose, jojoba and pomegranate seed oils 3 tsp= 1/2 oz and just doubled the drops on frankincense 20, lavender 20 and carrot seed oils 20.
Just wondering if I can add some pumpkin seed oil to this….I hear it is good for the skin also? do you know anything about it? Thank you for the wonderful things you bring to us! :) God bless
Pumpkin seed oil is not usually used for skin health, so I’d advise against it.
Wait, what?
Sorry, I meant “not usually used”!
Pumpkin seed oil is high in omega 3, 6, and 9 which are essential fatty acids; thus, allowing it to be quite healthy for skin!
I use lavender, frankincense, and carrot oil every day.
In pronouncing the Jojoba oil, the J’s are pronounced as H. HoHoba. Back in the 70’s where I lived there were natural plants growing wild and the locals would go out and pick them early every morning to drop off at a place that paid for them and then they shipped them to manufacturers that turned them into oil! And that is the story of how the Jojoba bean oil started.
In order to make the Anti Aging Serum, oils such as Jojoba, Evening Primrose, Pomegranate, Vitamin E and Carrot Seed are required. Where can I purchase these.
I purchased my oils on Amazon.
Thanks, Dr. Axe. I thought you were talking about Witch Hazel but I don’t see any in this recipe?
I have a recipe for Vitamin C serum using vitamin C powder and vegetable glycerine……can I mix that with the anti aging serum? It does call for distilled water to blend the c with, which probably wouldn’t mix with the oils, so I was wondering if I could mix just the c and glycerin with it.
How long does the serum last? Does it need to be used up by a certain time?
Also, I think I am allergic to vitamin e as products containing it have made my skin go like sandpaper in the past. So I now avoid it. Should I just omit the vitamin e from the recipe or replace it with something else?
Should last 2 to 3 months. Simply leave out the vitamin E ingredient if you’re allergic.
Do you have a recipe for an anti-aging moisturizer?
This serum should work as a moisturizer as well
I followed your suggestions on anti aging supplements. I actually bought all of them and take them fr a few months and space for another few months. I must say,I look better than years ago and people thought so too. Thank you Dr Axe.
These oils are very helpful… I was unknown of these things. Thanks for showing …..
Hi, I suffer from milia and am wondering if the anti-aging serum or others you have might work in my case to alleviate these unsightly white marks on my face? Thank you.
I never saw a “complete answer” to the anti aging serum that was asked by several people.
So instead of the carrot oil of 10 drops how many drops of lavender essential oil do you use? 10 drops
or 1/4 oz?
Thank you.
You can use 10 drops
1/4 ounce = how many drops?
Try 10 drops
Hello Dr.Axe,is this recipie works for oily and acne prone skin too? Or we need to substitute or skip any ingredients? Please let me know. Thank you
It can but everyone is different. I would try this recipe first: https://draxe.com/beauty/homemade-honey-face-wash-clear-skin/
Try leaving it on as a mask for 10-15 minutes and then rinsing it off after.
Dr. Axe, can I alo add myrrh, almond oil and mustard oil to this mix? Will that be safe? If so, how much should I add?
Thank you very much for all your help and taking the time to reply to us.
God bless you :)
can I add Lemon to this if so how much? and instead of Primrose can I us Rosehip instead?
Can I mix this with bakuchiol? I’ve learned you cannot mix vitamin c and retinols
You can try but it reputably doesn’t mix well with vitamin c.
Dear Dr. Axe,
Learning all the many benefits of EO’s from you, now I can’t wait to start using them especially your recipe for ” anti aging serum ” as I am already in my 60’s ! I emailed at the above address you have provided quite a few times already but had no luck hearing from you so far ! There are so many different kinds of EO’s on line but not sure which really is the best one ? You mentioned that EO’s are not created equal, so I want to know where i can order quality EO’s ! Thank you so much for all the many great information you have shared !
I hope i can hear from you soon Dr. Axe, can’t wait to start using those Therapeutic grade EO’s so i can also reap the many benefits of these oils. More power !
Is the pomegranate oil am essential oil?
No it’s not
I’m looking for any recommendation on how to treat bags/puffiness under my eyes / any suggestions? Thanks!
Make sure you are hydrated, place soaked black tea bags over your eyes for a few minutes, get at least 8 hours of sleep and cut out grains and sugars.
Do you know if this will help my melasma? I’ve had melasma for several years and it’s not pregnancy related
Add Neroli EO and it will help. It works slowly but it works. I have the same problem but I am seeing results now.
For the anti aging serum do you mean 1/4 cup jojoba oil and 1/4 cup pomegranate seed oil or 1/4 oz which seems very little. thanks
You can double the recipe to make a larger batch. Once the recipe is made, you should only need a few drops of the recipe to use on your face.
Dr.Axe canker sores run in my family and my children get them sometimes so bad they can’t eat is there an oil or oil recipe you can recommend?
Thankyou Dr. for sharing your remarkable knowledge
What is the shelf life of this serum? Do you have to use it within a couple months? Thanks!
I think it’s always better to use it within a few months but it should last for a while
Which do I use for the carrot seed oil…. an essential oil or a carrier oil?
Thank you
Thank you, Dr. Axe for all the knowledge you share. I was wondering your thoughts on subbing the Evening primrose and pomegranate oils (I don’t want to order at this time) out and using the Now brand of vegetable glycerine?
I have severe environmental allergies. I have tried lemon peppermint and lavender mixed with a carrier oil and this provides no relief. Do you have any other recipe blends for severe allergies?
Check this out: https://draxe.com/health/8-natural-allergy-relief-remedies/
Will combination of Rosehip, primrose, pomegranate, Grapeseed and frankincense work for anti ageing. I am oily and acne prone hence trying to skip jojoba oil.
Pls guide.
It could be a good option for you
Dr. Axe,
I use the serum mentioned in one of your YouTube videos both in the morning and at night. However, my face looks shiny and I’m considering taking the serum internally rather than putting it on my face. Is this a good idea? Will my body not absorb most of it?
Thanks.
You may be using more than your skin can absorb
What is the best source for frankincense oil?
Can I use organic wheatgerm oil instead of vit E?
I have much puffiness around my nasolabial folds (I’m in my 50’s…)
Are there any oils you’re aware of that could possibly decrease this puffiness? Maybe something like Roman chamomile w/lemon (or lemongrass – not sure the difference…) I thought I read that combo might make a difference, but I would LOVE your thoughts on what you think might be of benefit for this?
Thanks much – Annie T
I have just found you on line and I’m just getting into oils. You have so much info that it is joyously overwhelming. I am printing all the info because there is so much to learn. Can you possibly make available a “print” icon on your site so I can add your info to my information folder?? You are teaching me so much.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll let my team know and will look into adding that!
I have a granddaughter with crazy skin, she is itchy all the time. Nothing seems to work. She itches her legs and arms and neck, its dry and scaley, the Dr has given her steroid cream but its so strong and when its done its still there. I would rather try a natural approach. She is 11. Anything I could try for this?
It could be dry skin, that she’s dehydrated causing dry skin, allergies, etc. I would watch her water intake and use coconut oil on her skin and notice if you see any changes.
Dr. Axe you are the best! Thanks for caring. I am sooo enjoying your site. It is choke full of good stuff. Blessings!
What can I substitute the pomegranate oil with?
Just leave it out
I would like more information about where to purchase the oils – what brand? it’s a bit overwhelming with so many choices out there. I emailed at the above email address you provided several times, but have not gotten a response (even checked my junk mail)???
Thank you so much for all the information you have provided!!!! I have already made several of the recipes … look forward to using essential oils.
I made this recipe and it turned cloudy before I used it. Is that normal?
It should be fine
Hi Dr Axe – I’ve been a diabetic for 48 years and have just successfully completed treatment for breast cancer. I’m now tired beyond belief and am very willing to try a different approach on quite a few levels, coconut oil being one of them. I’ve noticed in a few of the homemade recipes you use different types of oils – lavender, etc. Where is the best place to purchase those (along with the dark bottles) and such?
Thanks for the help!
-Chris
Can shea butter be used in place of jojoba?
Yes
Dr. Axe
Thank you so muh for Caring & Sharing <3 I Absolutely Love the fact that you care enough about people to share all your knowledge :) I was recently intoduced to Essential Oils and am very intrigued by all the benefits! I understand to recieve the best benefits its crucial to use the best oils – I was told that the best oils are Clinical grade Ameo Essential oils – Because they are cell active & permeable – That each bottle sold goes thru a unique 5 step testing – I was hoping you could take a look and give me your opinion – Thank you so much – I'm super excited to experience better health thanks to your help :)
Thanks again,
Melodie Preston
Ps -If you decide after taking a look at the ameo difference you need more answers I can introduce you to Dr. Joshua Plant – Just let me know :)
What did you learn from Dr. Axe? Can you share or tell me where he has? Thanks…I share your excitement for essential oils.
Dr Axe, I have dry, leathery patches and pigmentations on my skin. Would these oils help to improve the texture and even out my skin tone?
Thank you very much for being so kind hearted and sharing all the amazing recipes with us. You are blessed beyonds words can say and such a treasure for this generation.
The Lord bless you abundantly!
Thank you very much! :)
I have had patients with similar complaints see great benefits from using it!
Nisha, I have the same problem but I am seeing great results now that I am using EOs. The only difference is that I add Neroli essential oil which is great for dark spots.
Dr. Axe: I have extremely sensitive skin and suffer with eczema. All fragrances cause my skin to react especially my face, even natural fragrances!
Do you think these fabulous oils will work for me since they haveven natural fragrance?
Thanks
I think they could be a great option! I would also consider following protocols listed here: https://draxe.com/health/eczema-treatment/
My husband has an issue with very dry scalp. He gets bumps and redness along with flaking skin. It gets worse in cooler weather. He uses a very strong shampoo that his dermatologist recommended. It helps the flaking but not the bumps and redness. Can using a mixture of essential oils help and if so what combination?
Thank you for your dedication to the health of others.
Lavender, cedarwood, rosemary and basil could all be beneficial. I would use these oils and make your own shampoo and conditioner.
In the recipe 20 drops lavender oil or frankincense oil. What the beast oil to start on? And can I do 10 drops lavender oil and 10 drops frankincense oil.
Thanks.
You can do 10 drops of each. They’re both great! You can see both of their individual benefits here:
https://draxe.com/essential-oils/what-is-frankincense/
https://draxe.com/essential-oils/lavender-oil-benefits/
Dr. Axe, I’m 60 and have lost quite a bit of weight and now have a more noticeable ‘crepey neck’ area. I’ve read that Palmarosa essential oil is very good at correcting this. Have you heard about this as well?
I have not heard this specific claim but do believe that essential oils are very powerful and have great healing properties!
For the Anti Aging receipe on your video, the one listed above, what are the measurements for it?
You can use the same amounts listed for the recipe above for the recipe ingredients mentioned in the video.
Dr. Axe,
The recipe for the Anti Aging Serum that you have posted here is different than the one on the video. Is there a recipe for the one on the video?
Mitzi
Here is the exact recipe from the video but both recipes work great and have similar results.
Anti Aging Serum Recipe:
1.) Jojoba Oil – one of the most hydrating oils in the world
2.) Vitamin E- provides fat-soluable antioxidants to help age slower
3.) Pomegranate Seed Oil – provides antioxidants and bioflavonoids for anti aging and sun protection
4.) Frankincense Oil – helps reduce sun spots and helps even skin tone
5.) Lavender Oil – helps heal skin conditions and improves cellular communication
Directions: mix ingredients together, pour in serum jar, rub 4-5 drops into face in the morning and night.
Thanks Dr Axe.
I cannot find pomegranate oil, can I use other oil instead like coconut oil ? And after applying this serum, do we still need to put on cream or moisturizer ?
Yes, you can. You can easily find pomegranate seed oil on amazon.com and we have a link right to it in this post.
Please give me the Vit. E (I.U. strength) you recommend to use with this recipe.
Can we still put on moisturizer or cream after applying this serum ?
Yes you can.
Hello Dr.Axe,

You Dr.Axe are a real treasure and to that I say thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Deadra
Amen!!!!!
I agree with Deadra! Thanks so much for all of this wonderful and helpful information! Especially the info regarding your mom and how she turned her health situation around with a change of diet, rather than the standard medical means. I hope this brings hope to many many people!
Yes, they are both excellent but you can tweak the recipe a bit and could switch in and out a few ingredients.
Hi would it work well to use 10drop lavender and 10 frankenscenc
Yes
Looking for the recipe for anti aging serium that was shown on an instructional video of yours, the ingredients were JoJoba oil, pomegranate oil, vitiman E oil, frankincense and lavender.
You can find the recipe here: https://draxe.com/beauty/homemade-anti-aging-serum/
Your video on anti-aging said jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, Pomegranate Seed oil, Frankincense and Lavender
Your anti agin serum above says: jojoba, evening primrose, pomegranate,
vitamin E, 20 drops frankincense OR lavender, and carrot seed oil.
It is not the same as the video.
I would like to do the one on the video. Can you give us the recipe for that one? Thanks
I just made this. Let’s see how it goes ! :)
I have a combination type of skin..is this safe for such type of skin?
I just love all Natural Remedies
How to make palms and feet softer with home made agents plus reduce degenerative arthritic discomfernt
I’m extremely prone to breakouts..will this amount of oil cause more of that?
It shouldn’t, but test it and see. If it does, try just adding a bit of frankincense oil to your current skincare line.
Holly –
I am 36 and I, too, am incredibly prone to breakouts and I started using coconut oil with beeswax on my face two years ago and my skin almost never breaks out and looks amazing – like, people always ask me what I use. I had heard people say to put oil on oily/acne prone skin for years and just didn’t believe them. But it really works and I only ever get any kind of breakout anymore for a day or two during my period. Hope you find something that works for you!
Why do you use coconut oil with beeswax? I use coconut oil on its own – is it better with beeswax?
Thanks :)
That’s great! Sometimes coconut oil alone can be too much for someone’s skin. If your skin does well with it, coconut oil is great to use alone.
i am now becoming aware of the amount of chemicals that are being used from household cleaning products to skincare. I am a wife and a mother of 3 kids ranging from 10 to 2 years old. i want my family to be healthy, I have learnt so much from your website, you tube and on Fb, thanks so much. I love the detox you posted on u tube with Apple cider vinegar. thanks again.
What is the recipes?
Does this anti aging serum need to be kept in the frig?
No, it can be kept at room temperature on the counter.
Where can I find oil?
yes, please tell me where you get your essential oils from. thank you so much Dr.Axe! Bless you, Rita
