According to the Coconut Research Center (6),

“Oil pulling will not and cannot loosen properly placed crowns or fillings. The only time oil pulling will affect crowns or fillings is if the teeth underneath have decayed and are full of infection. In this case, the foundation on which the crowns or fillings are secured to is badly decayed and unable to hold the dental material. Oil pulling removes bacteria, pus, and mucus. It cannot pull out porcelain, amalgam, or composite dental materials from the teeth.”

The only reason that a filling will become loose is if you have a rot or infection in the tooth. Then you will want to address this issue to keep the infection from spreading to your body.

I tried using it for oil pulling and had no problem. Then I read that it will loosen fillings and cause them to fall out. That could be expensive to repair. I really want to continue. What do you know about this?

Coconut is reputed to be the slowest oxidizing oil. Oxidized oils cause damage in the body producing free radicals. Oils continue to oxidize in the blood due to exposure to oxygen. Have any studies been done to determine the rate of oxidation in raw coconut oils?

That’s exactly what I tell my friends who don’t think they can swish Coconut Oil for 20 min…..”Put your Coconut Oil in our mouth…set your timer…. and then go check your emails or Facebook. You’d be surprised how fast 20 minutes goes” Also, Just knowing that you are swishing bacteria loose from your mouth is a great incentive to not swallow! Good advise also do not spit out in sink or toilet cause a build up of solidifying OIL in plumbing that runs or flushes cold water can cause back ups. Also don’t spit out around a plant you like cause the bacteria from your mouth will kill it…..(a girl posted this after spitting on her plant for 2 weeks). Spit it out in lined trash can or garbage. 1st thing in the morning I wash my face & put Coconut oil on it then do the Coconut Pull.

Your dog could also be suffering from food allergies. Try changing to a grain free-limited ingredient food. Could also change the protein such as duck or salmon etc. this made a huge difference in my dog.

Thank you very much for your articles. I did not see any coconut oil where I live. But instead I am eating coconut everyday. I have a condition of arthritis or osteoarthritis and of course I am ready to do whatever it takes to stop it if I can not reverse it. So please tell me if eating the real thing will provide me with the same benefits.

Thank you,

That it is marketing hype and has been borrowed from the olive oil industry where it refers to a specific stage in the production of that product. Your recommended brand, Tropical Traditions Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil,used the term ‘extra’, unless it was just typed wrong on your part. Thank you though – greatly informative.

I am not a coffee drinker, but I used it in my hot tea. It is very good, and it was the first time that I didn’t have to use sugar in my tea. It is super great to use on your toast also. I put a heaping tablespoon on each slice. It’s delicious. I happen to like the NUTIVIA Brand of coconut oil better than all of the other brands. Believe me I have tried several brands. Nutivia to me is the best there is out there. I bake brownies with it, and I Stir Fry with it. I have a weakness for choc., so I melt a few choc.chips, then I stir in a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil, (which thins it down) and then I add some chopped walnuts to it, also Chia Seeds sometimes. It’s great for popcorn, shining your shoes, I love it. However if you are trying to take some each day and yet you don’t like the taste of it, you can take it with equal amounts of peanut butter.I will take two spoons, and get a heaping spoonfull of each on the two spoons, and take some off of each spoon. That is one way of getting it down when you don’t like the taste of it. I am going to try it in a cup of hot choc. I think that it will taste great also. However I haven’t tried it yet. I also keep an open dish of it setting in my bathroom, and use it for many things. I recently had a swollen arm and it was all inflamed, and red. I rubbed coconut oil on it everyday, which really helped a lot. I just love it, love it, love it. B.J.

Hi Tanya. You could try Babassu Oil. It has a very similar fatty acid profile as coconut oil without the smell or taste. It is also great used topically and is not as greasy feeling as coconut oil. I saw a seller on Amazon (Dr. Adorable) who has 32 oz for $21.99. That is a great price!! It is also a soft solid at room temperature and melts on contact with the skin. Google it and see what you think.
